In my consulting role, when things get slower than I want, I have a strategy that helps me generate income relatively easily and quickly. It’s something you might be able to do if you are between jobs. Here’s how it goes:

I find something a firm isn’t doing, but should be, or something it isn’t doing well and offer to fix it for them. For example, several years ago I realised that many firms either didn’t have a Capability Statement (Corporate Profile) or had one that wasn’t written very well.

I faxed each firm and recommended either that they could improve their Capability Statement and hinted at how, or I asked them if they wanted me to produce one for them.

This led to about three month’s work.

Using this principle, you can use your expertise to generate income at almost any time you like. You just have to find something firms need to do better and offer to help them. That’s it.
