Take Care When Providing Job Information Online

Although I am not paranoid about identify theft, it seems that there are people out there who, for one illegal reason or another, want details of people so they can assume their identity.

One way they collect information is via email. Job seekers, because they are eager to provide information in the hope that they will get a job, are being tricked into giving information to criminals.

Therefore, you need to be diligent when providing information. If someone emails you about your resume and asks for further information, make sure they are legitimate. Some of these crooks use recruitment agency logos, create sites similar to genuine ones and so on just to suck in the unwary.

How could you check them out? Try the telephone directory and perhaps call the office to ask if a person whose name appears on the email works there; attend the office in person (often a better approach anyway); look at the email address … no reputable firm would have an email address with Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail etc, they will have their own domain name eg, dwave.com.au.

Don’t provide any information to anyone unless you are sure of their identity. It’s apparently a problem that’s on the increase.

Stay well.
